Pine Nuts

The base for Italian pesto and a delicious topper to many dishes.

Pine nuts are the edible seeds of pines. These seeds are cultivated from Europe and China, from as many as 10 species of pines. We source our pine nuts from China. The seeds are found in pine cones, which must mature and open for the seeds to be harvested. The outside shell is removed to reveal the edible pine nut inside. Pine nuts contain between 10-34% protein and are a source of dietary fiber. Pine nuts are frequently added to meat, fish, salad and vegetable dishes, or baked into bread and used in desserts. They are the essential ingredient in pesto sauce, and can also be enjoyed on their own as a snack.
